Cupcake Wedding Cakes – A Small But Perfect Taste Of Matrimonial Pleasure

Monday, June 18th, 2007
Tip! It’s worth getting this one out of the way first, since some of your options will depend on your budget. Wedding cakes are usually priced per portion, with costs ranging from $3 to $15 or more for celebrity designers.

When Saturday Night Live famously revived itself with the wonderful “Lazy Sunday” parody rap, they brought one of the biggest trends in baking to the mainstream: Cupcakes. The Magnolia Bakery, New York’s go-to source for cupcakes of every description, has lines outside until close to midnight, and they limit purchases because of their popularity.

As popular as cupcakes are, it was perhaps inevitable that they’d crossover into wedding receptions. At first, couples served them as an additional dessert to complement their more traditional wedding cake, and that’s still a very popular trend. But eventually, of course, the mighty cupcake juggernaut rolled onward and you can now serve your guests a cupcake wedding cake.

This clever concoction is created by using specially designed cupcake stands which give an effect of a tower, tree, or pyramid. Each cupcake is individually decorated, and the cumulative effect can be quite lovely. You and your wedding cake designer might choose to go with a single color, for a dramatic and monochromatic effect, or you could instead have a fun multi-colored cupcake wedding cake.

One of the great advantages of a cupcake wedding cake is the freedom it gives you to have a variety of different flavored cakes. Unlike a traditional wedding cake, you don’t need to deliberate over whether you prefer an amaretto-raspberry cake, or a more classic vanilla: Have both, and while you’re at it, add some cappuccino, banana, and chocolate-mint cupcakes too.

Tip! Personalizing Wedding Cakes with frosted icing and piped cream may need a steady hand so heaven forbid if you had too much to drink the night before – do not chance it. Fancy designs like ribbons and rose buds are all fabulous ways to ornate a wedding cake with a piping tube.

A cupcake wedding cake also offers other benefits as you plan your reception, particularly if you’re on a budget. Prices for cupcakes are between $1.50 and $3.00 each. Wedding cake however, which is usually priced by the slice, can easily cost twice that much per portion. Cupcakes are also much easier to serve, although you do lose the opportunity for a photo of the ceremonial cutting of the cake. If that’s important to you, plan to order a small traditional cake, which is supplemented by matching cupcakes.

Originally a New York phenomenon, cupcake wedding cakes are now commonly available everywhere. Consider ordering one for your wedding and give your guests a small, but perfect, taste of matrimonial pleasure.

Tip! Also, there are wedding cakes based on one’s favorite jewelry. The diamond lover can have a stunning diamond themed cake, though that can be an expensive option.

Tip! Fruit cake, cheesecake, ice cream cakes, even chocolate with chocolate-dipped fruit – your choices in wedding cakes are much wider than they were when your mother got married. You deserve a wedding you like, and a perfect wedding cake for it.

One of the “preparations” in the Christian Wedding that demands utmost attention and comments from the guests is the making of wedding cake! It is also one of the items of wedding photographer’s paradise. He would click it from several angles.

After all, a skilled cake designer makes a lasting impact on the guests. His visiting card will be demanded by many, if the taste is extraordinary!

You have to be a creative artist to be a good cake-maker. You will have your briefing from the groom/bride, but that is only one part. You have to form a total picture, taking into consideration their suggestions and views. The important question of the day would be, “Who made the cake?”

If it is a frown, you are out. If it is a smile, you are most welcome!

In theme weddings, the importance of the cake matters a lot. In medieval cakes, it is done with pearls and a golden crown. The adventure-loving couple prefer a bike or a helicopter or a plane! A diamond lover, more exactly a diamond merchant would like to have a big diamond, on the wedding cake.

Tip! It has also been heard of that wedding cakes have been decorated with the silk wedding flowers as well. Not only the church your getting married in, but the cake that you will eat and serve your guest at your wedding.

In Victorian Weddings, a bow or rose qualities of that era could be well engrossed on the cake. It can contain anything. From a simple beautiful rose, bird-of-paradise, sunflower, replica of the bridal bouquet to anything of the latest craze and appeal!

The appeal of the season also counts. What the designer would do for a cake in summer would not be executed in the winters.

Indeed the cake-planning is done weeks in advance. The cake-maker like to make each marriage, each cake, memorable. It is his business as well as personal satisfaction. If he can make hundreds of hearts happy, I think that it is his best reward.

A wedding cake is not complete, without the wedding cake topper. It is the final round for completion of the cake. Here again, the choice before the cake-maker is endless. Are you planning your wedding and reception and decided that you’ll just go with a simple white three tiered wedding cake? Sure that is what most people would choose, but do you even want your cake to be like everyone elses? There are so many ways that you can make your cake stand out from all the rest.

Instead of just having a white pound cake covered in traditional icing you could have a different flavored cake. You could choose to have strawberry short cake or chocolate cake instead of pound cake. Or you could have different types of cake for each tier. For instance you could have a layer of rum cake and then a layer of carrot cake. Adding raspberry filling or nuts can make your cake really stand out.

Tip! The wedding cake’s origins are not easily determined. Today, wedding cakes are generally served at Christian or Western ceremonies.

White is the traditional color for wedding cakes but you could be a lot more creative and choose a different color or two . . . or three. I’ve seen a Arab themed wedding where the cake was made to look like pillows in different colors like pink, purple, and fuchsia. A celebrity recently had a Tiffany jewelry themed wedding in which the cake looked like a stack of tiffany blue boxes.

Even if you decide to go with a more traditional wedding cake you could decide to use a beautiful cake topper to add some zest to your cake design. I have seen toppers that glow, play music and even spin around. You could do a comical topper with the bride dragging the groom or go more elegant with a monogram cake topper. Monogram toppers come in several different materials and can even be dressed with crystals to make it sparkle.

If you are not a fan of regular wedding cake you can opt for cupcakes. You can choose a lot of the same cake flavors and icing choices that are available for traditional wedding cakes. You could even decide to dress them up and give them out as favors to your guests. You might even want to consider having individual or mini cakes to hand out to your guests either in place of or along with a traditional wedding cake.

You should think very carefully about the kind of dessert that you would want to serve to your guests at your wedding reception. Do not limit yourself or your imagination because your wedding cake could end up being the talk of the party.
